About This Website
I'm Michael Shaw. After a career spent writing for organizations — as a book editor, website writer, and marketing copywriter — I finally get to write the poems and essays I've always wanted to write and share them with you. The artwork used to decorate the poems is created and edited with an AI app.
Why I Started this Site
I’ve written poems throughout my life and recently began sharing them on social media. My poems on Facebook and Instagram don't always get as many likes as personal photos or clever memes — but every so often, a friend tells me a poem really speaks to them or is helpful to them. This motivated me to build a website to house my writing.
What You’ll Find Here
My poems are short and illustrated. Many are inspired by personal experiences and my own quest for wisdom. I try to write honestly about life’s challenges — but I always aim to leave the reader with a sense of hope and encouragement. There’s plenty of negativity both in the real world and the virtual world; I want this website to be upbeat and positive, while remaining grounded in real-life experience.
The poems are simple by design. So are the reflections and affirmations that accompany them. Nothing here is meant to be obscure or difficult to understand.
A Few Personal Notes
I live with my wife Debby, who is also my editor and chief critic, in the beautiful town of Skippack, Pennsylvania. When I’m not writing, I try to spend time offline — walking in the parks and streets near my home, working out at the gym, or visiting flea markets where Debby and I hunt for tin toys, die-cast cars, vintage paperbacks, and other ephemera. I’m also working on growing a few plants in our garden.
